Thyroid-Related Problems
People with too little usable thyroid hormone getting to thyroid-hormone receptors in tissues will experience low-thyroid symptoms, even with normal blood-test results. Too much homocysteine, cortisol, reverse T3, inflammation from insulin resistance or too many toxins will block thyroid hormone from getting to thyroid-hormone receptors in cells. Testing for these problems is crucial in avoiding symptoms.
Hypothyroid Symptoms (too little thyroid hormone)
Insomnia; Depression; Anxiety; Extreme Fatigue; Poor Concentration & Memory; Constipation; Thinning Hair
Weight Gain; Hoarse Voice; Neck Swelling (Goiter); Cold Hands & Feet; Irregular/Heavy Menses; Digestive Trouble
Hyperthyroid Symptoms (too much thyroid hormone)
Tremors; Insomnia; Protruding Eyes; Weight Loss; Rapid/Irregular Heartbeat; Swelled Neck (Goiter)
Increased Sensitivity to Heat; Muscle Weakness; Frequent Bowel Movements; Increased Hunger
Strategy for Recovery: Test Carefully & Treat Naturally
TESTING CAREFULLY means evaluating digestive and immune strength; toxin exposure; food or chemical sensitivities; adrenal-gland health; hormonal balance; hidden infections; blood-sugar regulation and how diet is adding to inflammation. Is the liver working efficiently? Are enzymes D1 and D2 being suppressed by something? Does this person have enough good bacteria? Probiotics are responsible for converting 20% of our inactive thyroid hormone (T4) into usable T3.
TREATING NATURALLY involves very targeted metabolic nutrition, based on testing. Treatment will be different for every patient: herbs, enzymes, detox help and anti-inflammatory aids. There will be a dietary protocol based on testing and suggested lifestyle changes that lower inflammation, lower stress and address blood-sugar problems.
Autoimmunity and Conditions Similar to Thyroid Problems
Hashimoto’s Disease and Graves’ Disease are autoimmune thyroid conditions. Many Hashimoto’s patients have both hyperthyroid and hypothyroid symptoms for a time, which then changes to just hypothyroid symptoms. Graves’ Disease (hyperthyroid symptoms) involves an overactive thyroid gland. Graves’ patients often have hypothyroid symptoms once they are on medication or have undergone thyroid surgery.
Dr. Kajiki uses natural strategies to reduce symptoms in autoimmune-thyroid patients (see Hashimoto’s Disease). These strategies also help patients with conditions that mimic thyroid problems but are not directly caused by thyroid dysfunction, like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), alopecia (hair loss), insulin resistance and anemia. If a condition is outside his scope of expertise, Dr. Kajiki will refer that patient to a specialist.
“I was suffering from alopecia, social anxiety, depression and massive energy crashes during the day. The progression of my symptoms was so insidious I didn’t realize how bad I felt until I had a very aggressive episode of alopecia. I lost my hair within a month.
Within 2 days I was feeling 20% better!! Around 7 weeks my brain fog is gone, I can function and do all my daily activities, I feel positive and want to engage with people now. My relationship with my partner is much, much better. All my hair grew back in all of my bald spots in this 7 weeks and have a full head of hair now.”* — Jennifer P., Los Angeles
